In order for someone to obtain a green card, immigration law requires that the person not be “inadmissible”; that he or she has not committed certain violations of immigration law. Some of the main factors to consider:
- Entry into the U.S. without a visa or parole;
- Two or more entries into the U.S. without authorization;
- Prolonged time in the U.S. without authorization;
- Entry into the U.S. with a visa or parole but overstayed;
- Lied and/or presented false documents to immigration agencies;
- Brought and/or assisted others to enter the U.S. illegally;
- Having a criminal record;
- Having a deportation order; among many others.
